  About Us

Sarah Nelson

Sarah has worked at SCMS since 2014 as the aftercare director. She has a Master’s of Education in Advanced Montessori Programming and a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science (minor in Nutrition). Sarah was inspired to teach Montessori because “I wanted to be a teacher but believed that if children grow at different rates, (I wondered) why they are forced to learn at the same rate. Montessori fell into my lap at this time and I dove in headfirst. Haven’t looked back since.” At SCMS, she appreciates “building one on one relationships with all of the students, and not just one age group.”

Originally from Lino Lakes, MN, Sarah enjoys scrapbooking, quilting, reading, going to the theater and travel. If she could meet one famous person, dead or alive, it would be Mary Queen of Scotts because she is fascinated by her life story. If she could have any superpower, it would be to fly because “I could travel the world and never have to plan ahead.” Fun fact about Sarah:  she studied abroad in Salford, England as an undergraduate.

Camila Valeria Diaz

Camila joined SCMS in 2016 as a Spanish language teaching assistant for the primary program. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish. At SCMS, she loves “when children are very interested in learning” and how “they are really independent.”

Camila’s hometown is Minneapolis and she has one brother. Her hobbies are reading, movies, going to the beach, and going to the gym. If she could meet anyone famous (living or dead) it would be Paulo Freire. She enjoys listening to Marc Anthony, Thalia, J Lo, and Christine D’Clario. If she could have any super power, it would be to “help people all over the world at the same time.”

Emma Gohlke (Emma June)

Emma started her first year working as an assistant in SCMS in 2016, following three summers of assisting at the SCMS summer camp. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education at University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Her favorite moment so far at SCMS was when a child demonstrated his “yoga” to her.

Originally from Endeavor, WI, Emma enjoys volleyball, quilting, spending time with family, Brett Eldredge, and Snowmobiling. She has a dog named Gus.

Jesse Rudesill

Jesse began working as an assistant at SCMS in 2016. She was drawn to Montessori teaching in the process of finding an education method for her children. When she encountered Maria Montessori’s ideas, “I was amazed by this method and knew I needed to not only learn more – but to work in the Montessori setting.” Jesse is a registered nurse and has an Associate of Arts degree from Century College. When she stepped into SCMS for the first time, she says that she was “surrounded by its warm, inviting ambiance” and loved “being greeted by all of the children’s curious eyes. I have never been asked, ‘who are you?’ so much in my life! Their curiosity is something I love observing every day.” She describes it as an “honor” and a “beautiful sight, to see a child immersed in an authentic Montessori experience.”

Jesse is married to her high school sweetheart and has two children and a cat. She enjoys watching movies, listening to music (like Adele and Aerosmith), playing Monopoly, raising her children, and looking up at the sky "and everything above me." A fun fact about Jesse:  she learned how to drive a motorcycle years before she learned how to drive a car.
